The post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was scrapped by the Federal government. This was made known by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu after  declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on admissions into universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education et al.

According to him, the Federal Government does not see the need for the conduction of extra examinations after JAMB; the main governing body through which students gain admission into higher institutions. Tertiary institutions are being enjoined to mark out strategies on their own parts for admission of students.

In addition to this, the Federal Government have pegged cut-off mark for JAMB at 180. Students need to score nothing less than 180 in JAMB for easy access into tertiary institutions.
