FIFA World Cup Trophy Arrives Nigeria

President  Buhari received the FIFA World Cup trophy earlier today, 7th of March at the presidential villa, Abuja.

As it is the custom of FIFA to tour all participating countries ahead of FIFA world cup competition, the presentation of the FIFA trophy is currently ongoing in 91 cities in 51 countries across the globe.

While addressing the governing board of FIFA and the people at the event generally, President Buhari said he is pleased that Nigeria was the very first African country to qualify for the World Cup football competition and applauded Coca Cola company for being at the major forefront to encouraging football development in the country.

According to Christian Karembeu, a FIFA representative, he said the trophy would spend four days in Nigeria; Abuja (8th-10th) and Lagos (10th-12th) respectively. He acknowledged that Nigeria is not just a football loving nation but also a high ranking football nation in the world. He added that the trophy coming to Nigeria before the competition indicates that it could be won by Nigeria eventually. He also said the event was meant to put Nigeria on the global road map adding that it was part of Coca Cola’s commitment to the growth of football.

The tournament is scheduled to start on 14th of June at Russia later this year.
