A serving National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) member got crushed by a moving train at Ikeja yesterday 8th of March.
An unfortunate incident hit the entire NYSC Lagos State yesterday after a serving corps member was crushed by a moving train. The deceased, merely known as Debbie was said to have had ear phones on which hindered her from hearing the noise from the oncoming train.
Lagosians that were present at the scene tried rescuing her by rushing her to the hospital but she gave up the ghost while receiving treatments at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital.
According to reports gathered from an eye witness, the loud music the lady was listening to most likely prevented her from noticing the train.
”The train was not moving at a high speed. People tried to call her attention to the incoming train but she didn’t yield to the call as she continued pressing her mobile phone. I was looking at her from where I stood and saw her with an earpiece plugged into her ears which made her unable to hear the sound of the oncoming train. Many passers-by tried to pull her out of the rail line but she ran towards the moving train which crushed parts of her body.”
Confirming the sad news, Prince Mohammed Momoh, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator said;
“We lost the corps member just now. I heard the neurosurgeon and the orthopaedic doctors said they would conduct further investigations on her. But regrettably we lost her” .
May her soul rest in peace.
